Apple accidentally reveals face-unlocking feature and screen design of the upcoming iPhone

Apple may have accidentally leaked out the screen design of the upcoming iPhone. Screen design is not the only thing that the company may have leaked. According to a report by The Verge, the upcoming iPhone will also support bio-metric face-unlocking. [caption id=“attachment_3856249” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]Representational image. Reuters Representational image. Reuters[/caption] The company leaked these details in the firmware update for Apple HomePod. Developer Steve Troughton-Smith tweeted out that Apple may have accidentally released the firmware update on Sunday. As soon as developers saw the update, they grabbed it and started going through the code to check clues for upcoming features and products. The report also points out that the code refers to an infrared camera to detect faces even in low-light conditions. There is no clarity on what models will come with this feature.

Moving to the design, the HomePod firmware code also came with a reference screenshot an image, presumably for the upcoming Apple iPhone with nearly bezel-less screen display from the front.

The interesting thing about this new screenshot is that it is not the first time that we have seen this screen-design. But, this instance makes it almost official as the design comes directly from the official firmware. The design confirms that the upcoming iPhone will come with an (almost) ‘edge-to-edge’ screen where the screen comes around the top black strip. The strip is likely to house all the sensors from front camera, infrared camera to speaker and proximity sensor. One thing to note here is that Apple is not the first company to come up with both face-unlocking and almost edge-to-edge display. Other companies have already implemented these features in smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S8, Essential PH-1, and Xiaomi Mi Mix.
