App updates you should know: Chrome for Android, Skype, Evernote and more!

This week has brought along some big changes and updates for major applications. Some have been fit with new features while some have been improved across platforms. Here are some app updates that you will enjoy:

Snapchat Stories
What happens when the most well-known self destructing message application decides to change directions and show you the best stories of the day instead? Snapchat Stories! You can go about creating stories throughout the day and share it with your friends. The difference between a Snapchat snap and a Snapchat story is that the latter will not disappear. While the application has not been updated yet, the feature has been confirmed by Snapchat and is only a matter of time before it’s made official.

Chrome for Android
The beta release of the browser now lets you create shortcuts on your homescreen. If you’re visiting a website that you want to access fast later, you can click the “Add to homescreen” button from the toolbar menu. Google says that for some websites, the shortcut will open in a full-screen experience and appear as a separate app in the app switcher. You can download Chrome for Android from the Google Play Store.

Twitter for BlackBerry 10
The micro-blogging application has received a neat little update adding to it a whole load of new features. You can now meddle around with Lists using your BB10 device, get better trends based on location and personal interests, see more photos and view recent tweets in the Active Frame. You will also be able to find similar people to follow when you visit a person’s profile as well as notice that your Direct Messages now sync across all your devices and accounts. Download the application for BlackBerry 10 from the BlackBerry App World.

Skype
Here’s another announcement of a major update. It has been revealed that Skype will soon start to sync your chat messages across all devices you use the application on. Users have long complained about seeing old messages they’ve already seen on the desktop when they fire up the app on iOS and Android. The update will be rolling out over the next few months, it appears.

Google Analytics
Are you an Android developer? Here’s some good news: You will now be able to link Google Analytics to your Google Play Developer Console. This will help you get improved app insights that encompass acquisition and engagement. Whether you’re a developer or a marketer, you will be able to gauge metrics across stages like acquisition, behaviour and conversions.

Evernote
Say hello to two-factor authentication! Evernote will give you a set of codes for when you’re unable to access the service. It will now require you to confirm your identity twice in order to access your account. Essentially, apart from your ID and password, you will have to enter this code in case something goes wrong. Evernote seems to have made this move after the massive breach that took place on the service in February.
