App updates this week: Google Docs, Twitter, Snapchat and more!

This week, we saw companies talk about some highly anticipated app updates. From ‘mute button’ for Twitter to ‘’parking location’ for Google Now, here’s a quick recap of some cool app updates this week. Firefox 29 Earlier this week, Mozilla released Firefox 29 a thoroughly revamped version of its desktop web browser, which brings a brand new look, more in line with the mobile app, and also adds some useful customisation options.

This week, we saw companies talk about some highly anticipated app updates. From ‘mute button’ for Twitter to ‘’parking location’ for Google Now, here’s a quick recap of some cool app updates this week.

Firefox 29 Earlier this week, Mozilla released Firefox 29 a thoroughly revamped version of its desktop web browser, which brings a brand new look, more in line with the mobile app, and also adds some useful customisation options. Firefox has made bookmark management a touch easier. Now there’s no need to jump in and out of menus, as bookmarks can be added and managed almost immediately.

Google Docs and Sheets Google’s productivity suite – Docs, Sheets and Slides - will now be available as standalone mobile apps . Docs and Sheets apps are already available for download, while the Slides app will be launched soon. These apps have been a part of Google Drive, which is already available for mobile platforms. iOS users can now download   Google Docs  and  Google Sheets  apps from Apple App store, while Android users can download  Docs  and  Sheets  from the Play store.

Twitter  Twitter has begun testing the mute feature , and could roll out for users soon. The micro-blogging site has already released the ‘mute’ feature for a few Android and iOS app users. It works like Facebook’s ‘unfollow’ feature, wherein you can block someone’s posts, without entirely unfollowing them.

 Snapchat The latest update to Snapchat brings a “Chat” tool, allowing users to text or video chat with their friends. According to a  post  on Snapchat’s official blog, users will simply have to swipe across a friend’s name in the Snapchat inbox to start a text-based chat. A user can send snaps, videos and exchange text messages with friend. Click here , to find out more.

Video chatting on the new app

Foursquare Popular search app Foursquare will soon be split into two separate apps . One of these would be purely for discovering places while the other for finding what their friends are up to. With Swarm the company wants to offer a fast and quick way for users to not only share what they are up to, but also find out where their friends are and what they are doing as well. Swarm will be initially available for iOS and Android and will be rolled out for Windows Phone later. You can also  sign up for Swarm app  and get notified as soon as it’s launched.

WhastApp Ever wanted to mute a group chat on WhatsApp for more than the existing high ceiling of one year? Well now you have the answer for your perfectly reasonable idiosyncrasies. Starting this week, you can mute a WhatsApp Android group chat for one century. As per the update, version 2.11.230 for Android, the app has extended ‘mute’ time for group conversation. The latest option is 100 years , which is only a little more anti-social than the 1 year option.

When a yearlong cold shoulder is just not enough

Google Now Google has updated its Search app for Android with a new feature that remembers where you parked your car. The search giant has added a new card in Google Now that will instantly show them where the car is parked. The Parking location card isn’t released yet, but Android Police has got its hands on a signed APK. Users can  download the APK here . Apart from the parking card, the version 3.4 also adds new reminders, centralized list of nicknames and voice support for some settings. The ‘Help’ and ‘Send feedback’ sections are now merged into one called ‘Help and feedback’. The offline mode doesn’t clear all cards, and it will now save cards from your last update.
