Android Marshmallow numbers rise, Nougat is nowhere to be seen

Google officially released the latest update for its mobile operating system Android which has started seeding to Nexus as well as Android One devices. The company usually rolls out a new update after it announces the new Nexus devices, but this year the new Nougat update was released a month before the new devices for 2017. This hasn’t made a huge difference though, as Android fragmentation is still the same. The latest Android distribution figures are out with Marshmallow numbers increasing compared to previous month. The numbers point out that Marshmallow is now at 18.7 percent, which is an increase of 3.5 percent from 15.2 percent since last month. ![Android-distribution-2016](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Android-distribution-2016.jpg) Apart from Marshmallow, no other Android version has seen an increase in distribution figures. The dominating update Lollipop has seen a tiny decrease of about 0.5 percent although it still leads the pack with 35 percent. KitKat sees a decrease by 1.5 percent, Jelly Bean by 1.1 percent, and Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread by 0.2 percent. It is noteworthy that Android 2.2 Froyo is still in the numbers, Google should completely axe it considering it’s been more than five years since the last version of Froyo was out. No confirmation as to when Nougat will be added, but Google really needs to improve on its update numbers as it takes more than a year for a new update to actually start gaining numbers.
