Android Marshmallow is now running on 7.5 percent of devices

While we are barely two weeks away from Google I/O 2016 wherein the search giant is expected to unveil the upcoming iteration of Android, the latest Marshmallow has managed to reach only 7.5 percent of the active devices. ![android_distribution_may](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/android_distribution_may.jpg) Lollipop dominates the space with presence on 35.6 percent devices, KitKat that was announced back in 2013 on 32.5 percent devices and Jelly Bean on 20.1 percent devices. Interestingly, Ice Cream Sandwich is still found on roughly 2 percent of the devices and Gingerbread on 2.2 percent. ![android](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/android.jpg) If you compared it to the month ended April 4, Froyo still stand at 0.1 percent and Gingerbread-enabled had a slight slip. However, the 2013 released KitKat had a roughly one percent slip. Majority of the devices are still running Android Lollipop. Its usually the device manufacturers that are responsible to roll out the update to its device users, but there is no denying some of the older devices aren’t eligible to get the new Android update. Moreover, the numbers are nothing but a reflection of what we’ve been seeing in the past about Android distribution on active devices. Now, within two weeks, the company is all set to announce Android N. After a surprise preview, Google soon rolled out its  first update for the pre-release build. It was followed by Android N Developer Preview 2 with new rendering engine and UI features.
