Android distribution: KitKat grows to over 20 percent, but Jelly Bean still rules

Google has updated its platform distribution list for this month. The new numbers show that KitKat market share has now grown from 17.9 percent to 20.9 percent of all Android devices.   [caption id=“attachment_228965” align=“aligncenter” width=“640”] ![Android distribution list](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/android_distribution_001.jpg) Android distribution list[/caption]   There has led to a small dip in Jelly Bean users. Jelly Bean has now come down slightly from 56.5 to 54.2 percent in the past one month. While Froyo maintains its 0.7 percent Android OS market share, Gingerbread seems to be the surprise element this time. This older version of Android OS has seen a slight bump of one percent, which could be due to a surge in sales from some particular carrier tie-up or in an emerging market.   It should be noted that this data reflects devices running the latest Google Play Store app compatible with Android 2.2 and higher. Each snapshot of data represents all the devices that visited the Google Play Store in the prior seven days. Check out highlights of  **last month's Android distribution** .   KitKat has been witnessing a steady rise in the number of users. Unlike earlier, wherein new OS updates were available only for high-end devices, Google has ensured that KitKat makes its way into the budget segment too. The company announced the new  **Android L**  at the Google I/O held last month, likely to launch with its new Android Silver lineup. Here’s all you **need to know about Android L** .
