Android co-founder Rich Miner, who was with Google’s venture capital arm for the past seven years, is now returning to Google to work on an education-related project. It is a project within Google, and not a separate startup. Miner told Fortune , “I don’t actually know exactly what we’re building yet. Just like Android took us our years to get the first device out and I helped create WildFire 25 years ago as a voice-based personal assistant, which is just now starting to happen. This vision is another big idea, but it will take time.” He initially thought about a startup, but later spoke to Larry Page and Sundar Pichai and got the ball rolling within Google. It is because of the existing Google assets that the project is being launched as a Google project, and not an Alphabet company. Google has been doing a bit in the education sector with products like Google Cast for Education and Cardboard expeditions for virtual field trips. Google has been actively involved in building tools and services for educational sector. There are numerous apps used by schools and we’ve also seen versions of Google Cast for Education and Cardboard used for virtual field trip expeditions. However, the company now plans to build something different and decided not to talk about it.
