Android Auto was so far a service that boosted the functionality of touchscreen interfaces installed in cars. Launched over two years ago, several models from major automakers supported integration with Android Auto. The long list included models from Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Mahindra, Mitsubishi and Volvo. Now, Android Auto is available as an App for use with any car. Android Auto provides advanced functionality such as access to instant messaging alerts, music, maps and communications through an interface designed to enhance safety, and offers the fewest possible distractions. A set of voice commands allows users to control the app, take calls, navigate and change tracks without having to touch the screen. There are a lot of cars already on the road, without integrated touchscreens, which is why Google is making Android Auto available for everyone. The availability of the App for all users was announced on the Google blog. The phone screen experience has been updated to a 2.0 version and will be rolling out in the 30 countries where Android Auto is available over the course of the next few days. The App can be configured to start automatically when paired with the car bluetooth. There is support for BlueTooth car mounts for Smartphones, including the Logitech’s SmartCar BlueTooth car mount. Music services supported include Pandora, Spotify and Google Music. Android Auto is available for all users with Android Lollipop 5.0 or later versions. There are additional voice commands in the pipeline.
