Ambitious developers start Kickstarter campaign to fund StarCraft Universe

StarCraft Universe, so far a mod for the strategy game StarCraft 2 that turns it into a multiplayer role-playing game with completely different gameplay, has been highly anticipated so far. So much that the developers have been planning on further expanding it. The developers behind the mod have started a Kickstarter campaign to fund further development of the mod. The aim of the campaign is to raise at least $80,000 to finish the game’s first act and push it into the public beta stage.

In the first act, players will be able to pick from two races—Terrans and Protoss. There are also some stretch goals that, if met, will allow the developers to work on a third playable race—the Zerg.

The studio behind the mod, Upheavel Arts, has been quick to point out that it is in no way affiliated with Blizzard. However, the company has given the studio its blessing to make the mod. Since StarCraft Universe is a mod and not a full-fledged game, Upheaval Arts won’t need to spend any money on getting the StarCraft license from Blizzard.

“While Blizzard is not directly affiliated with this project’s production, we do communicate with them to submit bug reports and make technical request,” reads the post. “They have given their blessing/permission for us to launch this Kickstarter, and they are supporting our efforts by featuring SCU as an Arcade Highlight.”

The Kickstarter campaign plans to add quite a few things to the mod, such as a persistent system to customise and save your characters as well as a World of WarCraft-styled RPG system with deep stats and abilities.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns.
