Amazon's new EMI schemes for Kindle devices start at Rs 500 per month

Amazon today announced that consumers in India can purchase Kindle readers (Kindle and New Generation Kindle Paperwhite) and Kindle Fire tablets on EMI in India. Users get their hands on a Kindle for a Rs 500 a month and the Paperwhite for Rs 900 a month. The EMI is available from Citibank, HDFC and ICICI Bank when users make purchases for Rs 3000/- or above on www.amazon.in. The EMI option comes in tenures of three, six, nine and 12 months. Six other banks including the above three banks are also offering the EMI scheme from over 250 retail outlets across the country. The EMI facility will be offered on all devices along with a limited-period special price for the New Generation Kindle Paperwhite (Wi-Fi) and the basic Kindle 6-inch eink model. During the promotion period, Amazon is also reducing the price for the two devices. The New Generation Paperwhite will be priced at Rs 10,080 as against its original price of Rs 10,999. The basic Kindle model will be priced at Rs 5,600 as against the original price of Rs 5,999. The special prices on Kindle are valid till 15 April. The 6th-gen Kindle Paperwhite comes with an advanced e-reader display that promises better contrast and reflectivity. The pages will be virtually indistinguishable from a physical book, says the company. The built-in light guides light toward the surface of the display so that users can read comfortably without eyestrain. The new-generation Kindle Paperwhite gets lighter at 206 grams and comes powered by a 25 percent faster processor for quicker page turns. The company also promises 19 percent tighter touch grid that makes the Paperwhite respond even more accurately to the smallest touches. Users can also look up content using the built-in dictionary or on Wikipedia. Each time you look up a word in the dictionary, the vocabulary builder adds it to an easy-to-access list. It automatically backs up your Kindle books in the cloud and also tells you how much time it will take to finish a chapter or a book based on your previous reading speed.
