Amazon to not sell reseller's iPads in China

Each day, these days is bringing with it an update over the ongoing trademark tussle between China-based, Proview Technology and Cupertino-based, Apple Inc. over the use of term, iPad in China. According to reports so far, Proview Technology had acquired rights to the name - iPad, in 2000, years before Apple begin selling their popular tablet computer. Once Apple got into the picture, it went about securing the rights for the term, globally, and succeeded everywhere, but China. Proview Technology retained their rights to the trademark name. Now, Proview Technology have their displeasure over the sales of the tablet computer in the country clear. Apple, reportedly, is having a tough time convincing the court officials about them being the rightful owners of the term, and Proview Technology, have on their part begun implementing temporary impoundment on the tablets.

Caught in another tangle

According to reports, several cities in China are witnessing officials seize several units of the popular tablet, and the latest to join the bandwagon is popular online retail store, Amazon. A Wall Street Journal report states that Apple approached Amazon with a request  “to remove iPad 2 tablet computers sold by resellers from its Chinese website.” However, according to the report, the incident may be a standalone one, and not related to the Apple - Proview Technology lawsuit. The report states, “Apple Inc. asked Amazon.com Inc. to remove iPad 2 tablet computers sold by resellers from its Chinese website, according to people familiar with the matter, who say the request was made because the site is not authorized to sell the device.”
