Amazon Prime membership to cost Rs 999 in a few days; service set to get more benefits says India head

Amazon Prime, which **launched last year in India** , was priced at Rs 499 along with a two-month free trial period. This was an introductory price at which Amazon had launched its Prime subscription at and the American company is all set to bump it back to the proposed Rs 999 per year price point. Image: Amazon[/caption] According to a report in The Economic Times, the price rise from Rs 499 to Rs 999 will happen ‘in a matter of days’. There is no date given as to when Amazon would stop offering the Rs 499 offer on Prime membership. But the head of Prime in India, Akshay Sahi said that Amazon would be adding more benefits for Prime customers. While Sahi said that the transition would happen in a few days, speculations are hinting that it would most likely happen after the end of their ongoing Great Indian Sale, which gets over on 8 October. Around 11 million products being sold on Amazon, come under the purview of Prime and around 40 percent of the orders are coming from Prime customers. In addition to offering free 1-day or 2-day shipping on Prime certified products, the subscription also entitles you free access to the **Amazon Prime video service** which was launched in December 2016. This is in addition to features such as Prime specific discounts and deals and the Amazon Family. Amazon also held its maiden ‘Prime Day’ sale this year in India, which offered Prime members early access to deals. Considering Prime members in the US get features such as ad-free music streaming, Prime Reading (which gives unlimited access to books and magazines), offers on Audible audiobooks, unlimited storage for your photos and more, it wouldn’t be surprising if Amazon adds one of these features for the Indian Prime members.
