Amazon has launched a new Collections feature on the website that will serve as a Pinterest like website for books, movies, apparel and accessories that you can buy off the website. This will serve as a visual representation of recommendations for you as well as a wish list.
The website, which is very similar to Pinterest’s simple, stacked design, will simplify the learning process for anyone who would like to start working on creating a visual wish list. On Amazon’s website, you won’t be “pinning” your favourite items, but “collecting” them. Quite like Pinterest, you can categorise the images under headings like “My Style,” “Want List” and “Possibilities”. You will also be able to create new categories to put these images under.
Very Pinterest-like
When you head on to the Collections homepage on Amazon, you will see a stream of posts put up by others. You can go through these posts and “collect” an image if it catches your fancy. The images will have a plus button on the bottom right that you can hit to add it to your collection. You can simply choose to “Love” a product too.
You can check out more collections by a particular person by clicking on his or her username. It will take you to a public page that will only show you collections by them and no other personal detail. Following each other is an option too, but you cannot comment on the collections.
With features that seemed photocopied from Pinterest, it is inevitable that comparisons will be raised between the two websites. While one can say that Pinterest is an out and out social network based around these visual pins, Amazon’s website is a pretty neat way to eventually get in the revenue. Amazon’s website seems like a great way to assemble and even purchase your wish list, but you will still go back to Pinterest to be able to really interact with pins and pinners.
To start collecting products on Amazon, you need to log into your account and head to Amazon Collections.
