Amazon India could kill Netflix with this new Prime Video subscription plan

What this means is that you simply pay Rs 499 a year for the Prime membership and, you should get unlimited access to Amazon Prime's video content for free.

While we recently heard that Netflix could be eyeing developing markets by offering offline playback for its content, that plan too could be headed south if Amazon Video has its way. As conveyed to Tech2, Amazon India will be offering its Prime Video service at no additional cost as part of its currently available Prime delivery service that is priced at Rs 499 per year thanks to the introductory offer.

Yes, being an Amazon Prime member will have its perks when the Prime Video service goes online, which is expected to happen soon.

What this means is that you simply pay Rs 499 a year for the Prime membership and, you should get unlimited access to Amazon Prime's video content for free.

While it sounds like a sweet deal, nobody apart from Amazon has a clue as to what Amazon has on offer in terms of content. For now the website hints at a mix of localised and foreign content. This would include  new releases, popular Bollywood blockbusters, Hollywood movies, US shows, global Award-winning Amazon Original Series (The Grand Tour hopefully) and kids’ programming. Amazon will even tie up with Dharma Productions, T-Series and more to deliver local content. Talking about Amazon Originals, Amazon Prime Video along with acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli, Graphic India and Arka Mediaworks, recently announced a partnership to extend the magnum opus ‘Baahubali’, a film that earned over Rs 600 crores in worldwide box office collections, into a new multi-episode animated series titled – “Baahubali: The Lost Legends”. So yes, there may be a lot up on offer out here indeed.

Netflix on the other hand offers a Basic monthly package at Rs 500 with the Standard offering the same at Rs 650 for two screens and the Premium offering 4 screens and Ultra HD content. Another detail that is not clear right as to which format (SD, HD or UHD) all of this content would be available on offer.

The catch here is you have to subscribe to Prime membership now (with the introductory offer on) to avail it at an ultra low price. Post the Prime Video launch the package or plans could change.
