Amazon is broadening the horizon for its gaming-based social network GameCircle. So far, not many people have heard about the service owing to the fact that it was exclusively for Kindle Fire devices. However, the company is now releasing the app for all devices running on Android. Amazon seems to be competing directly with Google and its Google Play Games Services that were unveiled during last month’s Google I/O event.

GameCircle has many features that one would expect from a gaming-centric social network, including cloud saves for games, achievements and leaderboard data. The service currently supports more than 500 games, and will likely bring the same support to the rest of Android owing to the fact that Android files are the same regardless of how it was distributed; Google Play or Amazon AppStore.

Along with this, Amazon has also updated GameCircle with an improved version of Whispersync, bringing advanced conflict resolution to the service. The new feature lets GameCircle automatically resolve data conflicts between mobile devices and the cloud, queue updates to support offline operation and offer a simple interface that can be integrated in minutes.

Google had unveiled the features of its Google Play Game Services at Google I/O, which brought stronger support for games with new APIs. The new APIs include Cloud Saves, Achievements, Leaderboards and Multiplayer Matchmaking.

The first few games that will have these capabilities include Super Stickman Golf 2, World of Goo, Beach Buggy Blitz, Kingdom Rush, Eternity Warriors 2 and Osmos. Riptide GP2, the game demoed by Google, will be making its way to Google Play later this year.

The SDK and APIs for GameCircle are available on Amazon’s official website .

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
