The rumour mills around Apple’s next iPad offering, the iPad 5, have now churned out a new leak, according to Macrumors. Chinese parts supplier sw-box.com has now put up a complete list of physical features as well as a hands-on video where it compares the alleged iPad 5 against both the iPad 4 and iPad mini.
From what is known so far, the fifth generation tablet should come with a 9.7-inch display, the same as the one seen on the fourth generation iPad. Earlier leaks had also hinted at the company planning to implement an iPad mini-esque design for the iPad 5. To that end, it can be assumed that the new tablet will come with a large screen packed with a thinner bezel. This should result in a smaller overall surface area, while keeping the display size intact. The hands-on video seems to corroborate that. From what can be seen in the video, the new device, in terms of height and width, seems to be narrower than its fourth generation counterpart. The new design also seems to live up to the claim of an overall smaller surface. The design of the alleged iPad 5 seems to draw a lot of inspiration from the smaller iDevice, which matches what we have heard so far. Overall, the changes make the new tablet look flatter with a more streamlined design. The tablet also appears to come in a grey colour. There is no official word that this is the real deal, though, so it may be wise to wait until the company comes up with some information about the same.
While there are no official dates for when this device could be unveiled, the source has hinted at an October announcement. In addition, the company is also expected to reveal the new OS X Mavericks as well as the new Apple TV, all part of an “October surprise” package. There is still no word on how much the alleged device will be priced, though. With the estimated launch month around the corner, more news about the iPad 5 is expected to crop up, hopefully with a complete list of all the internal specifications and features in tow.
