Alienware shows three new gaming notebooks at E3

At the E3 Expo, Alienware has unveiled three new notebook models based on Intel’s fourth-generation Core processors, earlier known as Haswell. Keeping the trademark tech going, Alienware has made sure that there is a significant makeover which does not take away from the core brand image.

According to PCworld, Alienware’s General Manager Frank Azor has said, “It’s a big departure from 2009. The new models are 60 percent metal, including a 100-percent aluminum, a panel lid and a magnesium alloy chassis.” Each notebook will come with 10 clear lighting zones that can appear in a variety of colour permutations, based on a palate of 20 colours. Additionally, any game that supports the AlienFX utility will be able to change the color combinations according to in-game events, like completing a mission or quest, or when the player is taking damage.

The three models all sport different base configurations, with users having the option of upgrading when they purchase the piece. The first notebook, Alienware 14 which is priced at $1199 (Rs 69,800 approx) comes with a 2.4GHz, quad-core Intel Core i7-4700Q processor along with 8GB of DDR3L/1600 memory. Internally, the HD sports a 750GB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s mechanical hard drive and also has space for two additional storage devices. Other features seen include a slot-feed DVD burner as well as a Killer NIC gigabit Ethernet interface and a Killer NIC 802.11n Wi-Fi /Bluetooth 4.0 network adapter.

Alienware has come up with a new line-up of gaming notebooks

The Alienware 14 will also come with an Nvidia GT 750M mobile GPU that has 1GB of GDDR5 memory, which will be running a 14-inch non-glare TN panel that sports a resolution of 1366 by 768 pixels. A plus point for this line-up is the DDR3L memory optimised to work at a lower voltage to increase the notebook’s battery life.

The second notebook, the Alienware 17 sports a 17.3-inch anti-glare TN display with resolution specs of 1600 by 900 pixels. The panel is being run by an Nvidia GeForce GTX 765M with 2GB of GDDR5 memory. Priced at $1499 (Rs 86,900 approx) the base configuration of the Alienware 17 is similar to the Alienware 14, with the exception of the wireless network adapter which instead sports an 802.11ac/Bluetooth 4.0 model courtesy Broadcom and can hold three more storage devices.

The third notebook, the Alienware 18 that is priced at $2099 (Rs 1, 22,200 approx) comes with an 18.4-inch PLS screen with 1920x1080 pixel resolution. While most of the specifications are similar to Alienware 17, the difference comes with the fact that it runs two GeForce GTX 765M video cards which will be working on an SLI configuration. The Alienware 18, like the earlier model, will have room for three additional storage devices.

All three Alienware models will be seen with HDMI outputs, with a noteworthy point being the fact that the 17-inch and 18-inch notebooks will also be seen with an HDMI input. This means that gamers can hook up their game console or smartphones to take advantage of the notebook’s larger display.

Additionally, the three models will sport a new dynamic performance optimiser called the Accelerator, which will switch off Windows services that are not necessary for gameplay. Accelerator will then automatically turn all these services back on, when you stop your game. Another worthwhile addition seen is AlienAdrenalin that will let gamers record their gameplay in the background. All three Alienware models are currently available in the US.
