Alienware launches X51 refresh powered by Intel Haswell and Nvidia GTX 670

Alienware has announced a refresh to one of its existing products—the Alienware X51. The design of the refresh is the same as the original, but there have been quite a few changes under the hood. The biggest one is that it will run on Intel’s new generation of CPUs, codenamed Haswell.

Also part of the refresh is that its graphics are now powered by Nvidia’s GTX 670. The company has also announced that it will be offering dual HDD or SSD storage options for the system.

With the new additions to its hardware, the top-of-the-line model of the X51 now costs a hefty $1,449, which roughly translates to Rs 81,897. Buying this version will get you a 4th generation Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, a 2TB SATA 7,200RPM HDD and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 with 2GB GDDR5 memory. According to Alienware, this new system can crank out over 93 FPS in Bioshock Infinite on extreme settings.

The least expensive version of the X51 costs $699 (roughly Rs 39,507). It runs on Intel’s 3rd generation Core i3 processor clocked at 3.3GHz. It has 6GB of DDR3 RAM, a 1TB 7,200RPM HDD and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 645 GPU with 1GB of GDDR5 memory.

The X51 was originally launched at the start of 2012. At the time, it ran on the 2nd generation of Intel’s chips and Nvidia’s GeForce GT 545 or GTX 555 graphics cards.

“The Alienware X51 allows us to bring the exciting nature of high-definition, immersive gaming within reach of more gamers than ever before,” said Arthur Lewis, Vice President of Alienware, at the time of launch. “With the X51, we’ve expanded our gaming desktop offering to cater to all gamers in addition to our core enthusiast and competitive gamers. Now everyone can enjoy the latest games on a sleek, powerful, compact and customizable system. The X51 desktop delivers an incredible feature set for its size and price.”

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
