Airtel launches the iPhone 4S in India starting from Rs. 44,900

Making good on their promise that 70 countries would receive the iPhone 4S by the end of the year, Airtel along with Apple have officially raised the curtains off the iPhone 4S in India. India has been widely considered a dumping ground for Apple products after the iPad was launched 9 months after the U.S launch and the iPhone 4 was launched in India, nearly a year after it was first announced. The trend seems to be changing with the iPad 2 getting launched a short, while after the US launch and now the iPhone 4S is made available just a month and 10 days after it hit shelves in the US. The handset comes with an Apple A5 chipset, the same found on the iPad 2 as well as a dual-core Cortex-A9 processor. The iPhone 4S also features a PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU, which according to benchmarks is the fastest handset in the market where graphics are concerned.

The iPhone 4S gets unveiled in India

• 8MP AF rear camera with LED flash
• 1080p video recording with Image Stabilization and Temporal noise reduction

• Internal memory - 16GB, 32GB and 64GB

Apart from this, Airtel is also selling the 8GB iPhone 4 along with the 8GB iPhone 3GS. On asking about the steep pricing and sale figures, Ramesh Menon, CEO - Mumbai, Maharashtra and Goa, Mobile Services, Bharti Airtel present at the iPhone 4S launch said “The figures so far indicate that pricing has not affected the sales of the iPhone 4S.” However, he refused to reveal the number of pre-orders received by Airtel for the iPhone 4S."  Siri, the highlight of the iPhone 4S is working in India without location based services. When asked about location search and Indian accents, Menon said that Apple would definitely work on it.
