The latest weapon in Airtel’s fight for telecom supremacy may come in the form of cheap data packs and combo plans.

Telecom Talk (TT) has published a report which claims that Airtel is offering huge data packs for a pittance. Apparently, select users are being offered a 4GB 3G/4G plan for Rs 149 (valid for 28 days) and a Rs 299 plan with unlimited local and STD calling and 4GB of data which is also valid for 28 days.

TT also claims that Airtel is offering 4GB of data for Rs 265. The report doesn’t give any information on which circles these offers are available in, nor does it clarify the criteria on which these offers are being handed out.

As it stands, 4GB of data for Rs 149 is indeed the cheapest data pack on offer in India today. However, we don’t know if it’s a one-time offer or a recurring one.

“Close sources” have reportedly told TT that Airtel is “working on revamping their postpaid plans” and are looking to introduce hourly data plans as well. The report adds that these plans will be launched in the second week of February.
