Taiwanese digital gadget maker Aiptek Pacific Inc has just launched its line up of personal media players and digital Pocket DVs in India, in partnership with Mumbai based Wespro Corporation. Aiptek, which pioneered the concept of the PenCam in 1999 is now launching its Mini digital cams and portable MP3 players starting from Rs 4999 upto Rs 12,500. Aimed at the Indian middle class, the USP of the products is the affordable price. Taroon Vaswani, CEO of Wespro Corp highlighted the low pricing, explaining that Aiptek has managed to cut costs by striking off the middlemen involved. Among the products launched, is the Mini Pocket DV 8900 which bagged the “Best Choice of COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2000”, featuring a 16 channel equalizer and message recorder which can also be converted into a personal karaoke box! Another product in the line up is the Pocket DV Z 100 with 3x optical auto focus lens and an inbuilt MP3 player. The products are available for retail in India at 47 Big Bazaar outlets, American retailers “Full house”, E Bay India, sify.com, indiatimes.com, as well as in the institutional business-to-business mode. Although the company has just three service centers in India as of now, there are plans to build customer service centers and technical support shortly.
