Consumers are just exposed to the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Artificial Intelligence. Google wants to train AI to create art and music with Project Magenta . Researchers used 3D printing techniques and artificial intelligence to create a new Rembrandt painting over 350 years after the Dutch master’s death. Now, Filmmakers have shot a screenplay written by an AI that was on a healthy diet of science fiction movies. Director Oscar Sharp has made an experimental film in 48 hours following the screenplay generated by an Artificial Intelligence. The makers trained an AI that named itself Benjamin with scripts from sci-fi movies. They plugged in 2001: A Space Odyssey, 12 Monkeys, the Alien series, Star Wars movies, Blade Runner, Blade, Fifth Element, Cowboys & Aliens, the Jurassic Park series and the Matrix series. Star Wars, Star Trek and Terminator series screenplays were included as well. Added to these were dialogue and prop prompts. Benjamin churned all these scripts into one screenplay.

The resulting movie is set in a surreal futuristic setting. There is some kind of weird chemistry going on between the three characters on screen, and the bizarre dialogues somehow seem to make sense by the end of the video, even though they are only gibberish. The makers might have trained an Artificial Intelligence to make a script, but the resulting movie exposes how humans have been trained to “read” movies. For example, the interplay of the three characters on screen is interpreted as a love triangle, even though there is nothing in the script that implies such a thing. Check out the short film below.
