Software maker, Adobe may sue IT giant, Microsoft, over its own PDF-like feature in Microsoft Office 2007. Adobe is not satisfied with the steps taken by European Union to stop Microsoft’s new system from shutting out rivals. Microsoft’s controversial Windows Vista software, due on January 30th 2007, contains a version of fixed document formats, which pose a threat to the PDF format of smaller player, Adobe.
The Popular document Format (PDF) enables users to capture and view information from any application, on any computer system and share it with anyone around the world. PDF, which is patented by Adobe is popular among individuals, businesses, and government agencies across the world.
The Adobe representatives say that they will either sue Microsoft or work with the EU authorities to ensure transparency in the system. Meanwhile, Microsoft has pledged to make changes in the Vista version, in order not to monopolize the market.
Adobe is now planning on offering some of its more sophisticated software for photo and video editing over the Internet, based on ad revenue.
