With the Intel Haswell-E platform most likely looking like a September launch, we have already started seeing X99 boards being shown off. In addition to the new socket and a new chipset, Intel X99 boards will also need a new RAM socket. To that effect, ADATA Technologies has announced its XPG series DDR4 RAM modules for Indian market. The modules will be available through authorized distributors and channel partners across India at a price of Rs 7,400 and Rs 14,900 for a 4GB and 8GB kit respectively with a lifetime warranty.

The XPG Z1 RAM modules will support the latest Intel Haswell E platform and will target not just gamers, but overclockers as well. The operating voltage of the DDR4 RAM modules has been brought down from 1.5V to 1.2V, around 20 per cent reduction. It can reach speeds upto 2800MHz with timings of CL 17-17-17 and transfer bandwidth of 22GB/s.   On the design front, the red-coloured XPG Z1 modules look impressive. There is a jetwing inspired design element since it is a performance oriented drive. It uses Thermal Conductive Technology and 10-layer PCBs and the chips in the XPG Z1 are in contact with the heatsinks directly helping keep the heating under control.   As we had **noted before,** the pricing for DDR4 will be on the higher side. The older ADATA XPG 4GB DDR3 1600MHz module costs Rs 2,799, whereas the new XPG Z1 4GB DDR4 4GB RAM module costs around Rs 7,400, which is more than double the price. We know it is not fair to compare the the two modules as they have radically different specs, but this just gives an indication of the premium one will have to pay for the new RAM modules.
