Ad for Note 3 and Gear proves Samsung didn't get the lyrics to Lorde's Royals

Samsung has released a new ad for its Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear combination. The ad stars FC Barcelona football star Lionel Messi, as he uses his Note 3 and Gear to get an old and dilapidated building demolished to make way for a new football stadium for children. While all of this happens, the children sing New Zealand teenage sensation Lorde’s breakout hit Royals. Now, here’s the irony, the original song criticises needless spending on luxury goods and mindless consumption of things that are not needed. Lyrics of the song go

“But everybody’s like:

Crystal

Maybach

Diamonds on your timepiece

Jet planes

Islands

Tigers on a gold leash

We don’t care, we aren’t caught up in your love affair”  and so on. Seems like Samsung’s marketing team missed out the irony of picking this song to sell their most expensive smartphone till date and a device that many think as frankly unnecessary. You can check out the ad below.

The Note 3 was launched in India back in September. It is available for a whopping Rs 49,900 for the 32GB variant. Unlike the reviled design of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S 4, the Note 3 brings in a refreshed design. It has a leather-esque material used for the back panel with stitched accents, which looks quite posh. The display on the Note 3 is bigger than its predecessors, but the company has managed to keep the overall size of the device the same as the Note 2.

The Galaxy Gear was launched alongside the Note 3 and will make your wallet lighter by Rs 22,990. It is currently only compatible with the Galaxy Note 3, but will soon get support for the S4, S3 and Note 2 as well.  The smartwatch is capable of showing users notifications that could otherwise only be seen on the phone. These notifications include incoming messages, calls, texts, emails and alerts. It shows a preview of these notifications and lets users accept or dismiss them right from the Gear. The device has been garnering negative reviews across the board with technology website The Verge going on to say that the device “ should never have been born”. In the light of these reviews and the pricing of the device we expect Samsung to get some more stick for their song selection in the ad.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
