Acer Ships HD-DVD Notebook

Of late there has been a deluge of notebooks on the Core-Duo platform. Every major manufacturer has released products featuring a Core-Duo solution. Acer’s new notebook, the Aspire 9800, is no different. Loaded with cutting edge technologies, it features a 20.1" TFT LCD display with a GeForce Go 7600 GPU, which supports upto 256 MB of graphics memory. The Aspire 9800 also supports dual SATA hard drives up to 240 GB in a RAID 0 configuration for ultra-fast performance. However, what is grabbing everyone’s attention is the HD-DVD drive, which it ships with.

HD-DVD is a digital media format being developed as a standard for high-definition video. HD DVD is similar to the competing Blu-ray Disc, which also uses the same CD-size (120 mm diameter) and Blue laser. Toshiba, NEC, Sanyo, Microsoft, HP, and Intel promote HD DVD. With Toshiba having shipped its notebook with HD-DVD last month and now Acer following suit I wonder how long will it be before we get to see a notebook with Blu-Ray.
