90 percent of Gog.com games now Windows 8 compatible

One of the most popular digital distribution platforms for games, aside from Valve’s Steam, is Gog.com. The company has announced that 90 percent of its catalogue is now supported on Windows 8. This would include more than 400 different titles.

The company has also explained that most of the games won’t need to be redownloaded, as there hasn’t been any change to the games’ master builds. According to the post on Gog.com, “Some of the titles, our build ninjas performed their usual magic on, and they’ll work now in Windows 8–and we’re even adding Windows 7 support to a few. We’ll also be adding more Windows 8 games as time goes by and we’ve got time to apply some fixes to more of the classic games in the catalog.”

Gog.com started off as Good Old Games, where you can get DRM-free copies of classic games that have been re-coded to work on modern machines. The company has seen success, and has recently started adding newer indie games to its library, such as Legend of Grimrock and Botanicula.

On October 26, Windows 8 hit the shelves worldwide. The new OS includes a new user interface (UI), and a range of applications. In collaboration with hardware partners, Microsoft made more than a 1,000 certified PCs and tablets, including Microsoft Surface, available for the launch of Windows 8 — making it the best line-up of PCs ever across the Windows 8 and Windows RT ecosystem.

“We have reimagined Windows and the result is a stunning lineup of new PCs,” said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. “Windows 8 brings together the best of the PC and the tablet. It works perfect for work and play and it is alive with your world. Every one of our customers will find a PC that they will absolutely love.”

At retail stores, Windows 8 is available in two primary versions — Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro, as well as Windows 8 Enterprise for large organisations. Launched at the same time was a new member of the Windows family, Windows RT, which is designed for ARM-based tablets and is pre-installed on new devices. In addition to Microsoft Office 2013, Windows RT is designed exclusively for apps in the new Windows Store. Windows 8 features the new Start screen that gives people quick access to the apps and content they use the most. It also features an entirely new Internet Explorer 10 designed for touch and built-in cloud capabilities with SkyDrive.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
