The camera is now a standard feature on smartphones and you will find at least a 5 megapixel snapper in most mid to high-end phones. There are instances where the camera becomes the highlight of the device eg. Nokia’s 808 Pureview with a 41MP camera. Taking photographs and sharing them via social networks or photo sharing apps like Instagram is more than just a trend - for some, it’s a habit. And there are several mobile apps which will let you edit and enhance your photos by cropping and resizing them, adding effects, borders, and more. If you are an Android user, then here are the 8 best photo-editing apps for your mobile device.

Pixlr-o-matic is one of the finest photo-editing apps for Android that can be downloaded absolutely free of charge. As soon as you launch the app, it shows two options – one to choose a photo from the gallery or another to click a photo instantly by offering the camera option right from the app.

You can then edit the photo with the plethora of options available which includes more then 100 effects, 280 overlays and almost 200 different borders. Adding retro effects is quick, colour overlays will help set the mood while lighting effects add drama, sparkle and a grunge look. You can export edited photos back to the gallery and choose to save them in small, medium and large sizes. Moreover, keeping in mind how important social networks have become, Pixlr-o-meter gives you the option to share it on Facebook as well. What we really liked is that the free app is sans annoying ads.

Photoshop is a simple and extremely intuitive application to edit photos. Choose the photo to be edited and you will find options to crop, rotate, flip, and straighten the image. You can also tweak the exposure, saturation, tint, contrast and brightness of the photo. The contrast and brightness can be adjusted by simply swiping your finger across the screen to set the intensity. Though not too many options, there are a few borders and effects that you can add to the image. You will get the option to undo and redo an effect and also view the image in Black and White. Uploading the images on Photoshop.cm, Facebook and TwitPic is also possible. You can even save all the images on Photoshop.com and access them anytime.

Free Picsay has a decent number of functions to add effects like adjusting saturation, exposure, brightness, tint, contrast and even temperature. It has a plethora of effects, for instance, you can add the Vintage effect and the app will let you spruce up the image by letting you choose from options within the Vintage effect such as vintage aged, page, light, dirty and dry. Similarly, it is inundated with several options for most of the effects. You can also apply more than two effects and effortlessly view the combinations. Moreover, you can click an image within the app or pull up images from the gallery. Little Photo comes with a paid version too, which lets you tweak elements like brightness, contrast, exposure, saturation, and merge smooth skin.
