5 Things to do when you buy a new smartphone

By Kunal Mahipal Recently bought a new phone? If yes, here’s a low-down on how to get the most out of your smartphone. Protect Your Phone The first thing you want to do is protect your phone from any physical damage and that’s possible only with a phone cover. So how about getting a little creative and designing your own phone cover? Yes, this will be a bit expensive than the usual boring phone covers but remember, your choice says a lot about your personality. You could check out customised covers at Amazon.in, Chumbak.com, Postergully.com and Coveritup.com to name a few. Get a Screen Protector The phone’s display is the most expensive part of the phone and is not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. If your screen cracks or breaks by chance, you’ll have to pay a bomb in repairs. So we recommend getting a tempered glass or a scratch guard for maximum protection. Personalize Your Phone Begin with changing the wallpaper, grouping apps into folders and exploring some hidden options, right from motion and gesture controls to call blocking. Spend some time understanding your new smartphone on YouTube or blogs. Also, set notifications and privacy setting for apps and do not forget to organize your phone’s home screen so that there are no folders bursting with never-used apps. Get Some Interesting Apps Since it’s a new phone, you may want to stock up on some cool apps. When we say cool, we mean fitness apps, travel, antivirus, file manager, image-editing, news and a productivity app, apart from the popular social media apps. Also, keep yourself updated with the latest apps by bookmarking sites like cnet.com, engadget.com, techcrunch.com and mashable.com to name a few. Check For Updates There are chances that your phone’s delivery may be delayed and by the time it reaches you, there could be an update waiting. So go to your settings menu and get the latest update to save your phone from a hardware failure. Also, don’t forget to connect to a wireless network when you’re updating your phone or it’ll only leave a big dent in your mobile data. After all of this, we’re sure you would want your phone to last at least two years. That’s possible with an extended warranty! Companies like OnsiteGo offer a one year extended warranty for phones and other devices. The best part is that it covers all the defects that a standard manufacturer’s warranty covers for up to 12 months. So with an extended warranty, you can extend your phone’s life by an additional year. Now, isn’t that really cool? The author is CEO, OnsiteGo.
