There is a point in every child’s life when he wants to be a superhero as and when he grows up. Sure he may want to be a fireman or a policeman as well but deep down all he wants to do is unleash his powers on all evil to save humanity… or something like that. I never idolized any superhero while I was growing up but I always thought it would be cool if I could fly to school or jump from building to building. Now nearly 20 years later I still wish I could do all of that but sadly logic and rational thinking permit me from doing so; however thanks to the magnificent world of video games, all of us who bore such wishes can now fulfill them.
The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
I remember playing the very first Hulk game that was released after the movie and I was pretty impressed with all the chaos you could cause as the mean green killing machine but I kept getting irritated with all the Bruce Banner parts and kept thinking to myself “Wouldn’t it be cool if we never got to play as his alter ego?” And guess what, someone at Vivendi must have heard my cries since the next Hulk game (Ultimate Destruction) was in fact one of the best action games I’ve played on the PS2. Not only did you never get to play as Bruce banner but the game followed the “go anywhere do anything” AKA free roaming funda so you could run across building, climb walls and cause as much chaos and mayhem your heart desired. In addition to that, the game incorporated some crazy mechanics like weaponizing vehicles where you make boxing gloves out of cars, skateboards out of buses and more.

The Punisher
Frank Castle was a seemingly normal guy who went about minding his own business until his family was brutally murdered by the mob and since the local authorities never bothered helping him out, he decided to become a vigilante of sorts delivering a harsh brand of justice to those who chose to live outside the law. Sure his methods were a tad brutal (bordering on extreme) but at the end of the day he got the job done be it by burning perps, impaling them, shooting them, or feeding them to a bunch if hungry piranhas. Developer Volition watered down most of the gore during release to avoid an AO (Adults Only) rating but if you are planning on playing this game, I suggest you get your hands on the PC version since there’s a nifty little hack that’ll enable you to play this game in all its gory glory.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance
Marvel Ultimate Alliance is a dream for superhero lovers since this game packs in nearly 20 superheroes from the Marvel Universe so you have everyone from Spiderman to Ghost Rider to Blade to Daredevil to Wolverine to the Fantastic Four and much more (need to change them boxers now?) The plot so far is that Dr. Doom has formed a nefarious group called the Masters of Evil whose sole aim is world domination and stuff and its upto your team of four superheroes to put an end to his diabolical plan. Besides your run of the mill missions this game packs in tons of mini games and additional content to keep you entertained for hours. If you do plan on hooking this game up I suggest going in for the Xbox 360 version since the PC version suffers from horrific rates and the current generation version … well, looks like ass.

Crackdown
Ok, so Crackdown isn’t your conventional super hero game but when you think of it your character can do pretty much the same a superhero can. Very effortlessly he can scale buildings in a single jump, jump from building to building, throw people and vehicles over great distances and even rely of firearms when he feels the need. The reason you have all these “powers” in the game is because you are a genetically modified super agent who’s tasked with cleaning up the filth from Pacific City since the local law enforcement agency is pretty f****g useless. To add to the whole comical feel, the entire game is cel shaded and like all of you may know by now is playable with another person over Xbox Live in co-op.

Spiderman 2
Improving on its predecessor in every way, Spiderman 2 was based on the movie and followed the adventures of Spidey as he went about helping the helpless denizens of the Big Apple AKA New York City. The console version of this game played out like GTA so you had the freedom to swing around and do as you so pleased, and just so you know stay as far away from the PC version of this game since it was watered down to please younger audiences. Besides bringing the smackdown on super villains like Shocker, Rhino and Doctor Octopus you had a plethora of side missions like saving construction workers, preventing robberies, taking random pictures and how can I forget, rescuing balloons for little girls which was by far the most annoying side quest ever made.
