Are you a reclusive gamer? Do you shun people? Does interacting with the outside world trouble you? If yes, then playing an MMOG (Massively multiplayer online game) is your first step towards accepting society and becoming socially acceptable. You can interact and play with other people while staying in the comfort of you own home! So with that in mind, allow me to usher you on your path to social redemption by introducing you to five must play MMOGs.
World of Warcraft (WoW)
If you want an MMO that you can play for an hour or two a week, World of Warcraft is… not for you. This game is an insanely addictive MMORPG (it’s also called World of WarCrack by many) that will keep you hooked for months, if not years. There are currently around 7 million people that play this game and are hooked onto it *gasp*! Want to know what keeps people ticking in WoW? The gameplay is simple, yet fast-paced and action packed and this complements the deep story line of the entrancing Warcraft universe (that Blizzard crafted so perfectly) extremely well. The game has a perfect balance that will satisfy new gamers and veterans alike, with its extremely easy-to-learn game-style and interface.
There are 8 races that you can pick from along with classes that complement your play style. You start the game as a level 1 weakling and set-out on an adventurous journey to level 60 through the vast world of Azeroth through open grasslands and dungeons that will definitely make you as starry-eyed and awe-stuck as you were as a child (err … ignore this statement if you’re still a kid).

Guildwars
Here is a game for those who love to slay other gamers in some intelligent combat. The strong point of this game is its skill sets that supply you with a numerous and diverse range of skill that work in perfect synchrony with each other or counter other skills. You can pick up a class from the main classes that include Ranger, Warrior, Monk, Mesmer, Necromancer and Elementalist, and many others that came out with the expansions. Each class has its own skill set and plays in a different way. The truly ingenious part of this game is the way you can dual class and combine two different styles of playing to make one insane style.
The game’s beauty lies in the creative competition it provides that allows you to fight your enemy in creative ways—for instance, Monks can heal people and Assassins can teleport to a spot, do a bunch of damage and return. The way people use these classes in fusion is they jump to spot, heal their teammates and dish damage to enemies, after which they teleport back unharmed. You can come up with whatever combination you wish to invent and then perfect it; this way you experience the phenomenal dynamic Player versus Player gameplay this game has to provide first hand. And no matter what combination you or anyone else comes up with there is always a counter to it, so the game is very well balanced and is sure to appeal to those who love a challenge.
The Player versus Environment (PvE) element isn’t bad either and primarily revolves around the PvP. As your home Continent captures more territory, you unlock more PvE content, which allows you to kill different monsters and find rare materials and dyes that you can craft weapons/armor with. The armor and weapons are primarily cosmetic as their character enhancements are miniscule, so this allows you to make your character look the way you want it to.
The game also features some awe-striking visuals that will leave your jaw hanging. The world is crisp and bright with beautiful rendered backgrounds and a seamless transition between 2d and 3d graphics.

Gunbound
Gunbound is a ballistic-simulating, turn-based game where your objective is to blow the crap out of the opposing team. All you have to do is select a tank in the beginning of a round (each tank has a different type of projectile to attack with), aim at your enemy and shoot. It sounds simple but quite a few things come into play such as wind direction that effect your shot. Once you start playing a little you gain an understanding of how the game works and after that the game is fun as hell! Artillery games are primarily 2D and generally require a little practice to get good at.
The more games you win in Gunbound the more Gold you collect, and with this Gold you can buy items that enhance your character and your style of play.
To accompany the light hearted gameplay, the game features some cartoony visuals which are a refreshing change from games these days that try to mock reality. This works well to make the game appealing to people of all ages, and the type of gameplay is such that even kids can pick it up. The game is quite addictive and can keep you hooked for hours at a stretch battling your opponents with high angled shots. Oh, and the best part about the game is that it’s completely free!

Eve Online
This game is a Sci-Fi lover’s dream come true. Eve Online is a MMO set in space where you start off with a small ship that you can customize for either warfare, industrialism, trading, pirating, asteroid mining or the like. After you dock off a space station for the first time you see a beautifully rendered world around you with bright nebulas, blue stars and distant moons that would make any Star-Trek fan giggle with joy.
The tutorial missions make you fly around doing different tasks and picking up couriers from various NPCs (non-player characters; basically characters that are controlled by the game’s AI) located on different space stations that are situated in different solar systems. I remember that the first time I’d clicked on the Map button I was stunned! Eve’s universe is massive, and by massive I mean larger-than-you-can-imagine massive! There are over 5000 solar systems, each with many Planets, moons and space stations (sounds real good to all you claustrophobic people out there, doesn’t it?). Although the area you start off is in a small and secure corner of the galaxy, a universe full of adventure awaits you when you feel tough enough to take on the world.
The adventure you seek can be of any kind you desire. I for one took up deep space mining and joined a mining corporation that had many huge mining barges (that’s what they call mining ships) that would pilot into treacherously low security solar systems in the search for rare minerals. Undoubtedly, this game has the strongest role-playing element I’ve seen thus far and is a must-have for anyone who wishes to immerse themselves in in-depth role-playing.

Ragnarok Online
Just like most Korean games, in Ragnarok Online (RO) you’ve got to spend many hours playing, to make your character truly powerful. Although it is a grind to get to a higher level, the end rewards are well worth it. The game provides 6 base classes, which are Acolyte, Mage, Hunter, Swordsman, Thief and Merchant, and after choosing one you’ll spend most of your early days hunting a variety of tough monsters in order to level your character up and make him of some use. Once your level is high enough you can engage in what is called the War of Emperium (WoE), which is basically a battle between various Guilds to capture and defend a castle. In this way the game encourages team play and it becomes a lot of fun when you start killing other players.
An interesting thing about this game is how it is fragmented into many regional servers such as Korean (also known as kRO), Japanese (jRO), English (International RO or iRO), Russia (rRO), India (inRO), Oceania (oRO), Thai (tRO), Chinese (cRO), Indonesian (idRO), Philippines (pRO), Brazilian (bRO) etc. In this way the people you interact with will always be local and it will be easier to relate to one another. The game has some really hard Bosses (known as Monster Vs Player Bosses) that you have to kill in groups, so this encourages teamwork and adds to the charm of the MMO.
