I’m sure that most gamers out there have at some point, had a gaming moment that was so intriguing they wished they had someone to share the experience with. Those moments of awe, those instances of gamer nirvana, are so amazing that they almost feel wasted if you didn’t have someone to share them with. So, to that effect, here’s a list of games that are abundant with such moments, making them some of the best games for a friend to watch, while you play:
Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid (MGS) has one of the strongest storylines in any game I’ve seen to date and the best part about it is that most of it is delivered through some brilliantly directed cut-scenes. These cut-scenes are real lengthy (they can go on for up to 15 minutes at times), and cover most of your game time, so you feel like you’re watching a very well made espionage movie. Even the tactical stealth based action is intense and fast paced; so when coupled with the incredible boss fights you come across throughout the game, your friend is bound to stay entertained while he/she watches you play MGS.
Shadow of the Colossus
This game is a work of art! The game has a very dreamy de-saturated look which goes really well with the epic scale of everything in the game. The first time your friend lays his eyes on a Colossus, it will be the best ‘wtf!’ gaming moment of his life. These guys are huge, and the game has a very cinematic way of introducing each one, which makes them seem larger than life. The whole process of finding a Colossus might get a bit boring, but when you get there I’m sure the creative way of defeating each of them, will keep your friend awestruck.

Space Quest 6: The Spinal Frontier
Space Quest 6 will make you laugh so hard you’d end up with a stomach pain and a pair of wet pants. The game spoofs everything from Star Trek to Mortal Kombat in the most hilarious way, and you can expect to see something spoofy around every corner, so your friend and you’ll always be entertained. There are quite a few mini-games scattered all through out the game, such as ‘More Dull Combat’ and ‘Stooge Fighter’, which are quite entertaining to say the least. There is one thing though, to really enjoy the game, you need to be a wee bit tipsy (I don’t recommend this to minors though), after which you’re bound to have a blast watching or playing this game.
God of War
Without a doubt, God of War is the best action game I’ve played in a long while. The game’s fighting system involves mutilating a lot of stuff using the Blades of Chaos, two blades that have been fused into the protagonists Kratos’ hands, courtesy of the pact he signed with Ares. As and when combos are executed skillfully, the outcome is visually tremendous! It makes it seem like you’re watching an extremely well orchestrated bloodbath, with his blades dancing around in a crazed frenzy, and his enemies’ severed limbs flying through the air, spewing blood all over. If that wasn’t enough, this game boasted of an epic storyline denoted by some of the most brutal yet extremely beautiful cut scenes to grace a game…ever! If your friend doesn’t find the gore appalling (in which case you should find a new friend), I’m sure he’ll love to watch you slay your way through the game.

Carmageddon: TDR 2000
The one word that describes Carmageddon perfectly is ‘Car-nage’. The game features some of the best car crashes and human squashes I’ve seen. Sometimes, when the body of a pedestrian gets stuck under your car, you can actually drag it around making nice bloody shapes on the ground using the corpse as a paintbrush. Instead of racing, you can opt to destroy your opponents by ramming your car into theirs’, and it can be quite entertaining to watch such destruction. You could pickup some pretty insane power-ups in the game too, such as the ‘Pedestrian Electro-Bastard Ray’ which kills any pedestrians you drive by. So, if you’re friend’s a gore hound like you are and he/she likes the sound of crunching metals and squealing pedestrians, this is a game he’d love to watch you play.
