In the world of gaming, competition is tough and every now and then an awesome game slips by under the nose of the casual gamer who would have otherwise enjoyed it. This is a tribute to a few such games that deserved recognition but didn’t receive it, and here are those games …
EV Nova

EV (Escape Velocity) Nova is the third installment in the Space Action/RPG EV series and was originally made for the Mac before it got ported to Windows. It did decently well on the Mac, but was rather unknown amongst PC gamers as it wasn’t advertised at all. The game has been developed by Ambrosia Software and ATMOS and it’s the kind of game that you play till your heart’s content and put it aside, then after months you play it all over again. It has many deeply involving parallel storylines (6 to be precise), so you can expect something different every time you pick up the game. You start off as a rookie pilot in a small, crappy space shuttle. When you dock into the first space station you come across an old space captain who offers to mentor you and this is how the game tutorial kicks off; it blends in perfectly with the storyline and gets you geared up for the vast EV universe. You can do a lot of stuff in the game such as trading goods, killing pirates for bounties, Mining asteroids for rare minerals, doing courier missions and a lot more. Every time you dock into a space station there is a small chance for you to pick up one of the 6 main storylines randomly or one of the small storylines that are fun too. This game was definitely ahead of its time in being relatively open-ended. It has a lot of text content though, so if you don’t like reading you might not really like it. It’s kind of ancient so you can play it on almost any crappy PC that you might own. There is a free 30 days trial version available on the Ambrosia website .
