The New Year seems to have brought along good tidings for the viral video scene as well. Over the past couple of weeks, owing to the holiday season, we’ve seen fewer videos that have caught our fancy – except maybe the ones showing off how cold it is in the US. But now our Facebook and Twitter feeds are filled with genuinely engrossing videos that went viral over the past one week. Here are a few you should be checking out to make your weekend a little more fun. Devil Baby Attack: Everyone and their cousin has already seen and shared this video, but if you haven’t then hit it up now. This one takes a simple concept of film promotion and adds a reality spin to it. The movie being promoted here is Devil’s Due, a forthcoming release, and how it’s being marketed is tremendous. Take a look: The marketers left an abandoned, remote-controlled carriage with a wailing baby on the streets of New York. When well-meaning passers-by go closer to take a look, they’re in for a shock since the baby is pretty much devil incarnate (or the devil’s spawn, take your pick) The animatronic toddler screams, scares, shoots out projectile vomit and even flips off cops. Some people proceeded to scream their lungs out, trip, fall, run while some covered the baby with a blanket and one man wouldn’t even flinch when the child went on to lunge at him. Here’s guerilla marketing done right, with a viral video to boot! If Google Was One Man: College Humor has had a legacy of producing some really funny videos. There are song parodies like “Look at this Instagram”, movie parodies like Matrix Runs on Windows XP and a whole load more. Once in a while, the site comes up with some really hilarious original videos, like this one. What would happen if Google was actually just one man? Take a look: The video has users of all kinds lining in front of “Google’s” office, where they ask their queries out aloud and Google finds relevant files and papers to answer them questions. Then the questions can be as weird as “college girls nude” to “my grandson Nathan”. The harassed Google answers quite a lot like you’d expect Google to answer. “Did you mean Mississippi?” he asks when a man mispronounces it “Misspippi”. And “Did you mean hedgehog cute,” when another woman repeats the same mistake. But our Google here is only human and gets exasperated with old people asking him for “gmail.com” and even suggests Chrome to a girl asking to download Firefox. Neat! Peter Pan marriage proposal: For your weekly dose of “aww”, this one is a video from a stage performance of the classic tale, with a twist in the end. If you’ve ever read the story and wanted Peter Pan and Wendy to be the forever and ever types, this will touch you. Here’s the video: Actor Sandor Sturbl stopped the play towards the end and proposed to his girlfriend of two years, Lilly-Jane Young who played Wendy. She’s taken by surprise as a visibly nervous Sturbl tells the audience about their story and why he wants to spend the rest of his life with her. Other actors of the play are all too thrilled, jumping, crying and even collapsing out of sheer happiness for the couple. You should probably keep a box of tissues handy for this one, you’ve been warned. Bonus watch: Robert Downey Jr sings with Sting: Let’s face it, we all love Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr, the absolutely magnetic personality that he is, is irresistible to both sexes equally. Apparently he can also sing – well! Here he is with Sting: Downey Jr and Sting have had a great jam over The Police hit Driven to Tears. While Sting takes on bass duty and does backing vocals, RDJ steals the limelight with his front-man show. Here’s a fun fact; the video was actually shot during Sting’s 60th birthday party in October 2011 but it surfaced on YouTube only earlier this week. Never too late to hear Tony Stark sing, is it? Just don’t break the replay button like we did!
