24-hours with the Oppo Find 5 mini: Stunning design and build makes this stand out

Oppo has proven time and again that they are growing force to be reckoned with. With a diverse range of products spanning across price segments and superior build that would give many Tier 1 players a run for their money, Oppo is in a very unique position to command the market if they can boost their distribution and after sales network.

We’ve already seen the **N1** and **Joy**, two smartphones from the opposite ends of the price spectrum. Today, we’ll be taking a look at  the Find 5 mini, a cheaper version of the Find 5 which sits in the buzzing mainstream segment.

The phone comes in the typical Oppo packaging which involves a bare, white box with just the brand name on top. The bundle includes the phone, headset and a modular charger.

The Find 5 mini is built extremely well. The phone is light and fits beautifully in your hand thanks to the 4.7-inch display. While we would have liked it to be HD, qHD isn’t so bad either as there’s no noticeable pixellation or colour banding. The IPS panel also helps in delivering vivid and punchy colours.

The button placement is very ergonomic and the phone offers a decent amount of grip. The Find 5 mini isn’t the most powerful phone, even for a mainstream handset. It runs on a MediaTek MT6582 quad-core chipset and 1GB of RAM. Colour OS runs pretty smoothly however and we haven’t faced any issues with it yet. It slows down only just a bit when multitasking between heavy apps but for the most part, it’s a pleasant experience.

We’ve not tested out the camera completely but the 8MP rear snapper fared pretty well in our preliminary tests. Auto-focus speed is good and you get HDR and Panorama shooting modes as well.

The Oppo Find 5 mini is priced at Rs 19,990 and finds itself in direct competition with the Sony Xperia M2 Dual. Oppo’s strong points lie in its build quality and some unique additions to Android in the form of Colour OS. It’s tough call between the two but this should get easier once we’re done with the full review of the Find 5 mini.
