The Election Commission has announced the specific dates for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Voting in the General Elections will take place in nine phases between April 7 and May 12 this year. The EC has also released a general map where you can check when your constituency goes to polls. With 243 constituencies (Assembly and Parliamentary) going to poll on May 7, it is set to be busiest day for the Election Commission. But 122 parliamentary constituencies go to poll on April 17, making it one of the days to watch in the 2014 LS polls. The EC website has a helpful State-wise and date-wise classification and interactive map where you can check when your constituency and the rest in your State go to poll. The election buzz will be high even on the first day April 7, when only six parliamentary constituencies go to poll. On April 9, seven more will vote, while on the next day a massive 92 constituencies will vote. Assembly Elections in Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Sikkim will coincide with the nationwide General Elections. The 2014 polls are one of the biggest in the world with more than 800 million people eligible to vote. It just goes to show the necessity for so many phases. In comparison to the nine announced for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the 2009 elections were held in five phases during April and May as well. The current Lok Sabha’s term ends on June 1 and a new house has to be constituted by May 31.
