A 14-year-old girl committed suicide at her residence in suburban Mumbai on Tuesday night allegedly over facing abuse from a boy on Facebook and her parents have alleged that the police did not act on their complaint.
According to an Indian Express report, the girl’s mother has told the police that her daughter, a student in class 9, was in her room on Tuesday evening when she discovered that the door of the room had been locked. The girl’s father managed to break open the door only to discover that she had hanged herself from the ceiling fan.
According to the girl’s father, a 16-year-old boy had been harassing her on Facebook and they had even gone to the local police station to lodge a complaint.

However, Ibnlive reported that a complaint was lodged but no action was taken and senior officials have promised action if any lapses were found.
The father of the girl said that the girl’s online stalker had posted obscene messages on her Facebook account and may have sent her disturbing messages that drove her to commit suicide, reported Mid-Day.
CNN-IBN reported that the boy, who is also a minor had been detained by the police for further questioning.
