While giants like Samsung, HTC and Sony have been launching smartphones with full HD displays, many desi phone makers haven’t taken the plunge yet. We tried looking for phones by Indian companies with a full HD display, and this is what we came across.

1080p Indian budget phones that are worth a look

Most of the Indian phone makers have been trying to offer superior features at an affordable price, and have succeeded to a great extent. However, while giants like Samsung, HTC and Sony have been launching smartphones with full HD displays, many desi phone makers haven’t taken the plunge yet. Even the highly anticipated Micromax Canvas 4 (with its mighty features) disappoints with its True HD IPS display that is not full HD. We tried looking for phones by Indian companies with a full HD display, and this is what we came across.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Lemon Aspire A4 – Rs 17,990
Lemon A4 is among the first full HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) 5-inch smartphones from a desi phone maker. The smartphone was launched for Rs 17,990, but one may find it for a slightly lower price in local stores. For the price point it is offered at, the smatphone comes with a decent set of features. Fuelled by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM, it runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It weighs 136.7 grams and equips a disappointing 1850 mAh battery.

Take a quick look at its specifications:

  • 5-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution
  • 3G, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot
  • GPS
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • 13MP rear camera with auto focus, 5MP front-facing camera
  • 16GB internal memory, expandable up to 64GB via microSD card slot

WickedLeak Wammy Passion Z – Rs 14,990
WickedLeak’s Wammy Passion Z, which will remind you of the Sony Xperia S (lookswise), equips a full HD display. Just like the Aspire A4, it comes powered by a quad-core processor and runs on the latest Android OS version. The Passion Z runs on the stock Android Jelly Bean V4.2.1 with a stock user interface and launcher. It is fuelled by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, MT6589 chipset and PowerVR SGX544MP graphics unit. The 2500 mAh battery powering the handset is fairly good. It is cheaper than the Aspire A4 and is priced at Rs 14,990. Check out the complete review here.

A quick glance at the specifications of the Wammy passion Z:

  • 5-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution
  • Dual-SIM (WCDMA + GSM or GSM + GSM), 3G, Wi-Fi
  • GPS
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • 12MP rear camera with auto focus and BSI sensor, 2MP front-facing camera
  • 4GB internal memory, expandable by up to 64GB via microSD slot

Karbonn Titanium S6
The rumored Karbonn Titanium S6 could be the next to jump on the affordable full HD handset bandwagon. While nothing is confirmed, rumours are rife that the smartphone is expected to come with an attractive set of features, including a full HD display. The smartphone is rumored to come with a stylus and run on either Android 4.1 or Android 4.2. The S6 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, but there’s no mention as to which processor and GPU combination it is likely to be. Lastly, Karbonn is likely to price the smartphone under Rs 20,000.

Clearly, the little available options are all priced under Rs 20,000 and have a decent set of specifications. We wonder why Micromax couldn’t launch the Canvas 4 with a full HD display.
