Judging by the amazing response our last free game articles received, we can tell that a lot of you are suffering from broke-ism as much as we are. If that’s the case, your friendly neighborhood Tech2 doctors are back again to hook you up with a dose of free gaming. Here are 10 more free games for you to enjoy:

Mech Commander 2

A spin-off of the MechWarrior series that swooped the mech-fanatics of the 90s by storm, Mech Commander made some of the most awesome mech-based real-time strategy/tactical games you could hope for. The game placed a crap load of mechs at your disposal, each of which had their own strengths and weaknesses, making them viable for long ranged to short ranged or close quarters combat. The roster included mechs that specialized in scouting, reconnaissance, heavy combat, sniping and loads of other things. You could use squads of these mechanical powerhouses to conquer the game’s lengthy singleplayer campaign any way you wanted to.

Alien Arena 2008

If you like your multiplayer frag-fests fast, free and light on your system, Alien Arena should be right up your alley! This free game uses the CRX engine that was used in multiplayer hits such as Quake III and Unreal Tournament, that’s still easy on the eyes so many years after release. The game features a retro sci-fi theme with gameplay akin to the umpteen shooters of the Quake III era, ensuring that it’s flavored to the taste of multiplayer shooter fanatics. To sweeten the deal the game features a crap-load of modes such as Deathmatch, Team Core Assault, All Out Assault, Capture the Flag, Duel, and Cattle Prod (yes, Cattle Prod!), so rest assured you know that the Rs. 0 you invest in the game, is safe!

Penumbra

What started off as a tech demo to promote the Newton Game Dynamics Physics engine eventually evolved into a full-fledged survival horror first person shooter. Penumbra boasts of quite a few things, but longevity isn’t one of them. Since it is a free game developed from a tech demo, the game spawns only a couple of hours, but during that time you get immersed into a rather grim, moody game-world, with loads of physics-based puzzles to play around with. If you’re in the mood for a free horror game to creep you out, you might want to take a look at this one.

CrossFire

One of the many games ‘inspired’ by Counter Strike, CrossFire is a rather well supported online free first-person shooter, which sees two mercenary factions take on each other in many global scenarios. The game features quite a few modes for those who’re bored of the standard deathmatches, including Team Death Match, Search and Destroy, Elimination Match, Ghost Mode, Free-For-All and Special Mode. There’s an experience system in place that rewards players for their performance, allowing them to use an item-shop to customize their avatar’s equipment and appearance!

War Rock

War Rock is another free-to-play first person shooter with a bucket-load of customization options. In each game, the player picks between two sides to battle it out with modern day weaponry. You get to pick from three gameplay modes, including Close Quarters Combat, Urban Ops and Battle Group. Depending on the mode selected, the size of the game (number of players) differs, and one gets to play with or without vehicles. The game’s not the most bug free out there, but it makes up for it with many options including a massive weapon selection, map selection and a humongous amount of active servers.

Purge

If it’s more online FPS action you seek, Purge’s right up your alley. This game uses the Lithtech Talon engine (Alien versus Predator 2) to deliver a fast paced futuristic shooter experience akin to Unreal Tournament. Only in Purge, there’s a mix of sci-fi and fantasy, making both hi-tech weaponry and magic equal parts of the gameplay. You choose between two sides: Order (tech) or Chosen (magic), and depending on how long you spend in the game, you get to level up and pick attributes to boost different aspects of your play-style. If the mix of RPG and FPS elements in an online environment tickles your fancy, give this one a shot.

TrackMania Nations

TrackMania’s a really popular series of arcade racing games who’s biggest selling point is a plethora of tracks. TrackMania Nations was released as a free game to promote the series, that features around 100 free tracks and complete online multiplayer support, making it a must-play for all you racing fanatics with not-so-high-end PCs. The game’s Leaderboard’s its most popular feature, that features players with the best track timings on its homepage, making them celebs amongst TrackMania fanatics.

VDrift

If you prefer drifting around corners at crazy angles to standard racing, VDrift is just for you. This drift simulation features 19 tracks based in real-world locations, and 28 cars to burn rubber with. To add to it, the game’s completely based around a simulation open-source engine called Vamos Physics, that strives hard to provide realistic results by using accurate figures where aspects such as engine, clutch, transmission and limited-slip differential are concerned. If you’re a racing enthusiast and love simulators, I’m sure you wouldn’t mind the slightly bland visuals.

Flight Commander

If you’re a fan of the epic Wing Commander series that took the 90s by storm, you’re bound to like this free remake that does the series every bit of justice. The game features a plethora of both test and live missions, where you can customize your wings to suit your needs and make your foes eat their tail feathers. The game looks old, so it’s probably best suited for those with older rigs and no cash for an upgrade. If that sounds like you, give this one a shot for a burst of Wing Commander nostalgia!

Cabal Online

To finish off the list we have an MMORPG, that’s brimming with an active community and player-base. Cabal Online takes place in the fictional world of Nevareth, that’s destroyed by a malevolent entity known as the CABAL. With six classes to pick from - Warrior, Blader, Wizard, Force Blader, Force Shielder and Force Archer - it’s your job to help the remnant forces of Nevareth battle the return of the CABAL.

That’s about it for this list of free games. Just like before, if you have any more recommendations for our broke-brethren, please feel free to leave a comment and inform us of more free games.
