Internal storage is capped at 4GB, but can be supplemented by up to 32GB through the microSD card slot. The tablet supports external 3G and EVDO dongles, besides the built-in Wi-Fi support. Running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the tablet has a VGA camera and a gyro sensor. Commercially, the device is sold as the UbiSlate 7Ci.

DataWind has also recommended specifications for the next-gen Aakash 3 and has shipped a limited number of these devices for early testing. Aakash 3 has an embedded quad-band Edge modem allowing for both cellular voice and data functionality. This allows the device to be used both as a smartphone and also for ubiquitous Internet connectivity with a regular SIM.

In addition to delivering the pending Aakash 2 units, DataWind also announced it has completed deliveries of its pre-paid backlog with less than one percent of pre-paid backlog customers remain pending, due to lack of courier coverage or contact information. New orders for the UbiSlate devices will now be processed within 72 hours.
