
Blackberry was initially designed by Canadian company Blackberry Limited. Previously it was known as Research in Motion. At a time, Blackberry was one of the most valuable smartphone vendors in the world. It used to specialize in secure communications and mobile productivity. It was well known for the keyboard on its devices. When the company as at its peak in September 2013, there were 85 million Blackberry subscribers worldwide. Blackberry messenger service BBM was very popular among business persons and youth as well. With the Black Curve, the company changed the world perception of this as a businessman brand. However, Blackberry had lost its dominant position when Android and iOS platforms grew in market. The number got severely down in March 2016 to 23 million. Blackberry uses a Blackberry OS developed by Blackberry Limited. Blackberry worked on its strategy and came up with Android-based smartphones in 2015. Blackberry’s Android smartphone, which was launched in June 2018 is KEY2. It was launched in India and international markets also. It was the first Blackberry smartphone to sport a dual-camera setup. In August 2018, the company announced the launch of Evolve and Evolve X.
