Microsoft's challenge to Apple: Windows 8 with Retina display

Tech website, TechCrunch has revealed that Windows 8 will be coming with retina display hen it launches. What is retina display? You can’t not know unless you’ve been living in a cave. Apple’s new iPad has made retina display a daily phrase. Retina Display means that the new iPad will ruin pretty much any computer for users since it has a screen resolution of 2048 x 1536. As Apple’s marketing chief Phil Schiller, had stated at the launch of the new iPad, the screen of the new iPad has one million pixels more than an HD Television. ( Read more on the new iPad screen ) But Apple won’t be able to hold on to its retina display advantage for long.  Microsoft is all set to launch it’s new version of Windows with Retina Display. According to TechCrunch, the story was revealed on a blog post which deals with building Windows 8. The post by Microsoft states, [caption id=“attachment_252073” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“Windows 8 with Retina Display could be the boost Microsoft is looking for. Windows 8 will power all these PCs and experiences… they will be greeted with a consistent and familiar experience. This breadth of hardware choice is unique to Windows and is central to how we see Windows evolving. Looking at the breadth of devices that will run Windows 8, we can classify their screens in several ways… Screens will have an increasing number of pixels on screen, or screen resolution. In general, the larger the screen, the higher the screen resolution, but this isn’t always the case. Pixel density: Screens will also have different pixel densities, which is the number of pixels within a physical area, or dots per inch (DPI.) The pixel density increases as the screen resolution increases, but the screen size remains constant.

Microsoft has already announced that it plans to launch Windows 8 supported tablets soon. Nokia is also  apparently working on a Windows powered tablet that could be launched later this year. Microsoft hopes to give a tough challenge to Google, which has been very successful with its Android tablets and phones. It’s too soon to predict who will win the Windows 8-Android battle, but it’s pretty certain that retina display could give Microsoft a big advantage. Retina Display on PC screens could be a game-changer for Microsoft, especially for those consumers who can’t afford a tablet, and are still buying their first PC or laptop. Consumers in China and India in particular, fall into this category.
