Early Friday, Microsoft announced that it had resolved a cloud services outage that had caused significant disruptions globally, affecting various industries, including aviation, and leading to the cancellation and delay of numerous flights.

In India, airlines such as SpiceJet and Akasa Air also faced disruptions due to the outage. SpiceJet announced via X (formerly Twitter) that it was experiencing technical challenges with its service provider, which affected online services like booking, check-in, and managing bookings.

As a result, the airline had to implement manual check-in and boarding processes across airports. Similarly, Akasa Air reported infrastructure issues with its service provider, leading to temporary unavailability of online services including booking and check-in.

Globally, the outage impacted several low-cost carriers in the US, including Frontier Airlines, Allegiant, and SunCountry. Frontier Airlines, a unit of Frontier Group Holdings, reported that its operations were affected, resulting in a temporary ground stop. The airline confirmed that it was resuming normal operations and had lifted the ground stop. Allegiant’s website experienced downtime due to the Azure issue, according to a statement provided to CNN, although Allegiant did not respond to Reuters’ request for further comments.

Microsoft’s initial response on Friday indicated that it was investigating issues with multiple Azure services in the Central US region. The problems included failures with service management operations and connectivity or availability of services.

The outage began around early on Friday, affecting a subset of customers using various Azure services. Azure is Microsoft’s cloud computing platform that provides services for building, deploying, and managing applications and services.

In addition to Azure issues, Microsoft also reported investigating problems affecting various Microsoft 365 apps and services. This broader impact further complicated the situation for many users and organizations reliant on Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure.
