The Apple Watch Series 10 is gearing up for some exciting changes, according to the latest rumours. Over the years, the Apple Watch has seen regular updates each fall, but its design has remained relatively unchanged. However, the upcoming tenth series, rumoured to be called the “Apple Watch X,” is expected to introduce some significant alterations.

This new model, anticipated to be released sometime in 2024 or 2025, might not just be a minor upgrade but a substantial redesign.

One of the most talked-about changes involves the way bands connect to the watch. Reports suggest a shift to a magnetic system, which would free up space currently occupied by the traditional slot-based mechanism. Additionally, there’s speculation that the overall design will be thinner, although not drastically so, according to a report by Apple Insider.

Despite these potential changes, it seems the watch will retain its familiar square-ish shape with a rounded display, rather than adopting a completely new look like a circular display. While the redesign rumors suggest major tweaks, a complete overhaul of the design appears unlikely at this stage.

One of the more concerning rumours for existing Apple Watch users is that older bands might not be compatible with the new model. This speculation stems from claims that the connectors for the next-generation Apple Watch have been completely redesigned. Although the source of this information hasn’t provided many details or reliable sources, it does align with earlier reports about changes to the band system.

Apple has been exploring new ways to use magnets in its watch bands, as seen in various patents, including designs that transform the band into a protective case.

On the display front, the Apple Watch Series 10 is expected to feature a more power-efficient screen. Current models already minimize battery usage through low power consumption and adjustable refresh rates, but the new model could take this further.

Reports suggest that the upcoming watch will use a new type of display technology, LTPO thin-film transistor (TFT), which will improve power efficiency. This new technology will allow more parts of the display to use LTPO, reducing power consumption even further.

In terms of size and thickness, there are mixed reports. Some sources suggest the new Apple Watch will be thinner, following a trend seen in other Apple products like the iPad Pro. This would continue Apple’s longstanding focus on making its devices thinner and lighter.

However, other reports hint at a larger watch with sizes starting at 45mm and going up to 49mm, a step up from the current models. There are also conflicting reports about the thickness, with some renders suggesting the watch could be slightly thicker than the Series 9 but still thinner than the Apple Watch Ultra. A marginally thicker design could provide more internal space for components like a larger battery, potentially extending battery life.

The renders of the new model, which leaked in late June, show a larger display with thinner bezels. This would give the watch a more modern look while maintaining a size similar to its predecessors. These renders also suggest the watch could be thicker than some rumours have indicated, with a proposed thickness of 11.6mm compared to the Series 9’s 10.7mm.

Overall, the Apple Watch Series 10 promises to bring several exciting changes, from a new band connection system to a more power-efficient display and potentially larger sizes. Whether these changes will make the watch significantly better remains to be seen, but for now, they certainly make the upcoming release one to watch.
