LG Display today unveiled the world’s slimmest Full HD LCD panel for smartphones. The display panel is 5.2-inches long and is only 2.2mm thin with a 2.3mm bezel. LG Display claims the panel is both slimmest and narrowest among existing Full HD LCD panels available for mobile devices. The company added that the panel will provide larger visible display space on smartphone and make devices easier to grip and lighter in weight. “Today’s introduction of the world’s slimmest Full HD LCD panel represents an exciting advancement for the high-end smartphone segment, and is possible due to our world-class expertise in IPS and touch technologies,” said Dr. Byeong-Koo Kim, Vice President and Head of LG Display’s IT and Mobile Development Group. The company also claims that the panel has brightness of 535 nits at maximum which outperforms all other current mobile Full HD LCD panels. ( Nit is a unit of measurement of luminance, or the intensity of visible light, where one nit is equal to one candela per square meter. Nits are used to describe the brightness of computer displays, such as LCD and CRT monitors.)
