LG Optimus G in India for Rs 34,500: Who are its competitors

LG has finally launched its flagship device, the Optimus G, in India at a price of Rs 34,500. The smartphone which runs Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) OS is joining a highly competitive smartphone market in the country. We take a look at how it matches up against some key features of LG’s competitors. Price: At Rs 34,500 the smartphone is not too highly priced. Of course, the Samsung Galaxy S III is now available for as low as Rs 28,000 in India but the latest version, the Galaxy S IV, will be out later this month and should hit India by April. And don’t expect that to come cheap, at least in the beginning. The HTC One X, another high-end phone is also priced around Rs 34,999 on some websites. The latest BB Z10, is priced at Rs 43,490, while the iPhone 5 costs Rs 45,500. The Nokia Lumia is priced at Rs 35,000 on Flipkart . In terms of pricing LG’s phone is mid-level and a decent buy that many with a 30k budget would consider. [caption id=“attachment_643194” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] AP The LG Optimus G. AP[/caption] Processor and space: Like the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III, the LG Optimus G is a quad-core smartphone. It has a processor clocked at 1.5Ghz, 2GB RAM along with 32GB built-in space. Samsung Galaxy S III has 1.4 GHz quad-core Cortex-A9 processor with 1 GB RAM in India. The iPhone 5 has a dual-core A6 CPU processor which is believed to be clocked at 1.3 Ghz and comes with 1GB RAM. BlackBerry Z10 has a dual-core processor and 1 GB RAM, while the Nokia Lumia also has dual-core processor with 1 GB RAM. The LG Optimus G does not have a Micro-SD card which is not so great since Apple and Samsung have devices with higher memory space. BlackBerry Z10 comes with 16 GB memory and a microSD slot with 32 GB as the maximum space limit. The iPhone 5 of course comes with fixed memory space; 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB versions. The Samsung Galaxy S III is available in 16 and 32 GB versions with a 64 GB microSDX slot option. Nokia Lumia 920 has 32 GB space with 7 GB SkyDrive storage and no slot for MicroSD. HTC One X also has only 32 GB space with no MicroSD slot. Camera: The LG Optimus G has a 13 megapixel rear camera, much much higher than the rest of the devices in the market. All other phones, that is the Samsung Galaxy S III, iPhone 5, BlackBerry Z10 and HTC One X have an eight megapixel camera. The Nokia Lumia has an 8.7 megapixel rear camera. OS : The smartphone runs the Android 4.1.2 version of Jelly Bean. While HTC One X has got the Jelly Bean update in India, the Galaxy S III Jelly Bean update has not been rolled out for India. The iPhone of course runs the iOS, while Nokia Lumia is on Windows Phone 8. BlackBerry Z10 runs on the latest BlackBerry 10 OS. LG’s phone has the advantage of running a developed eco-system as far as apps go and this could give it the edge against Nokia and BlackBerry.
