Amazon has reduced its workforce by approximately 14,000 as the tech giant is replacing them with AI. Is AI cutting jobs? Will the layoffs slash thousands of jobs and who is to be blamed?

The AI race is speeding up between humans and machines. Will machine learning language create employment problems? Amazon on Tuesday said that they are planning to reduce their workforce by cutting off thousands of jobs and replacing it with artificial intelligence as reported by BBC.  

The much awaited fear is not taking shape with Amazon joining a list of companies falling in this category. The tech giant will reduce and slash thousands of jobs saying, “it needs to be organised more leanly.”

Well, the question remains: Will this work? The layoffs will affect the deeply affected high-profile jobs. AI is to be fully blamed which possibly deeply impacts the finances and create employment problems.  

45 per cent workforce reduction 

According to BBC, an online firm, Chegg cited the new innovations and advancements in AI as it announced a reduction in 45 per cent of workforce on Monday.  

It determines the AI affecting the job sector. The newer technology is adapted by the recent workforce and they are bound by the new advancements which specifies how vulnerable humans are to technology’s adoption.    

Is ChatGPT affecting jobs?

As reported by BBC, Assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh, Morgan Frank studied that the scale of unemployment is increasing after the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022 in the support and office sector.  

The Altman’s learning model is gaining immense recognition and being used by people across the globe. Frank said, “Both tech workers and admin workers – they’re in a rougher job market than they were in a couple years ago."

The introduction of technology is not just helping but also hampering the growth rate. “I would be sceptical that AI is the reason for all of this,” Frank added.  

The hiring and firing process in Amazon is witnessing its creating a cage for the technical minds. After the AI boom from the last three years, the dynamics have changed and affected the typical patterns of hiring procedure of companies.
