Apple’s recent “It’s Glowtime” event introduced the iPhone 16 series, highlighting its AI capabilities. However, the Apple Intelligence features won’t be available on the iPhone 16 lineup until October, with some features further delayed.

Users of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, however, can start using these features through a developer beta version of iOS 18.1. Here’s how you can install the iOS 18.1 developer beta to access Apple Intelligence features early.

This beta version, intended for developers, offers a preview of new features before their public release. Note that developer betas are less stable than official releases, so they are not recommended for everyday use.

How to install
Because this is the Beta version of the software and is mainly meant for developers and debuggers, the OS will not be as stable as the regular version. Users can expect some rough edges and some bizarre behaviour, but by and large, the Beta version is pretty stable. Having said that, before installing any beta version, it’s crucial to back up your device. No matter what software you use, Beta builds can be unstable and may cause issues.

If you still wish to proceed, simply follow these steps.

  1. Join the Apple Developer Program: To download the beta, you need to be part of the Apple Developer Program. Visit the Apple Developer’s and sign in with your Apple ID. If you’re not already a member, you will need to agree to the Apple Developer Agreement to join.

  2. Download the Beta Software: Once signed in, navigate to the developer beta section. You can download iOS 18.1 developer beta 3 from there.

  3. Install the Beta via Settings: On your iPhone, go to the Settings app, then select General, and tap on Software Update. You should see the developer beta update available for installation. Follow the prompts to install it as you would with any other software update.

If you are low on storage, you can use a Mac to install the beta. First, download the iOS 18.1 beta restore image from the Apple Developer site. Connect your iPhone to your Mac, open Finder, and select your device under the Locations section. Hold down the Option key, click “Check For Update,” and choose the iOS 18.1 beta restoring image you downloaded.

Before you proceed…
We cannot stress this enough, Beta software can be buggy and may affect your iPhone’s performance. It’s designed for developers to test new features and adapt their apps accordingly, so regular users need to be very, very wary.

If this is something that seems too risky for you, or you’re really scared of this process and fear you may void the warranty, wait for the stable release of iOS 18.1 in October, when Apple Intelligence features will become more widely available.
