Intel to Make in India, announces collaboration with local manufacturers to make laptops

Intel, a global technology giant, has unveiled a strategic partnership with eight prominent Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) companies and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) to expedite laptop production in India. Leveraging its comprehensive expertise in the IT industry ecosystem, Intel has shared crucial technological insights and operational guidance, aiming to lay a robust foundation for the local laptop manufacturing sector. This initiative underscores Intel’s commitment to advancing technology-driven growth, aligning seamlessly with the “Make in India” initiative. The collaborative effort has brought together Intel and a distinguished roster of Indian manufacturing companies, including Bhagwati Products Ltd, Dixon Technologies India Ltd, Kaynes Technology India Ltd, Optiemus Electronics Ltd, Panache Digilife Ltd, Smile Electronics Ltd, Syrma SGS Technology Ltd, and VVDN Technologies Private Ltd. For several of these firms, this partnership marks their inaugural venture into laptop manufacturing. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, expressed his satisfaction with Intel’s involvement in bolstering India’s electronics manufacturing landscape. He emphasized the alignment of this endeavour with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to catapult India’s Digital Economy to $1 Trillion and to empower the electronics manufacturing sector to contribute $300 billion by 2025-26. Minister Chandrasekhar underscored the significance of nurturing a capable and expansive Indian Electronics Ecosystem, fostering growth, scalability, and global recognition for Indian Electronics Manufacturing Companies. This collaboration has seen Intel sharing its extensive knowledge to streamline the production of entry-level laptops in India. The efforts encompass the utilization of cutting-edge Surface Mount Technology (SMT) lines, the establishment of rigorous quality control processes for components, and the benchmarking of finished laptop products. Intel has also extended support to ODMs, encompassing both Semi Knocked Down (SKD) and Completely Knocked Down (CKD) processes. Santhosh Viswanathan, VP & MD, India Region, Intel, described the partnership as a milestone in the Indian electronics industry. He stressed that Intel’s legacy as a catalyst for electronic ecosystems worldwide is now being harnessed in India. By introducing Intel’s technology investments and global supply chain ecosystem expertise, the company is furthering its commitment to nurturing electronic manufacturing capabilities in India. This holistic approach, from Surface Mount Technology assembly to finished product, not only aligns with the “Make in India” initiative but also contributes to India’s technological progress. In other news Intel has announced plans to host the India Tech Ecosystem Summit in November, gathering a multitude of local manufacturers to showcase an expanded range of devices being manufactured in India. India’s electronics manufacturing industry is at a pivotal juncture, brimming with opportunities. Intel remains steadfast in its mission to enhance access and opportunities for India’s technology ecosystem, including IT product manufacturers, through continued collaboration with the government, industry stakeholders, and the startup community, all aimed at creating a substantial impact for the nation.
