Instagram has made its first tech acquisition and bought a video start-up called Luma. Facebook which owns Instagram has confirmed the acquisition.

The Luma team wrote on in a blog post “We’re excited to announce that we have been acquired by Instagram. Eighteen months ago, we embarked on a mission to make capturing and sharing beautiful videos easy without expensive software or heavy equipment. By joining the exceptionally talented team at Instagram, we’re taking another big step towards realising that mission. Instagram has made its first acquisition.[/caption] Luma says that the service will not be available after 31 December, 2013 and the company has gives users a link to download their videos from. Luma’s iOS app is already off Apple’s App Store. According to TechCrunch , which quotes a source, Luma’s stabilisation technology is already live in Instagram. The report also points out that Luma’s “non-disruptive” video filtering technology, which lets users shoot a video with a filters turned on and lets them remove or change it after the recording could be a useful feature for Instagram. Luma also had a suite of video-editing tools for changing the brightness, contrast, etc in videos.
